On Wednesday, May 27, McDonald’s reopened its restaurant near the "Lukianivska" metro station in Kyiv, which had sustained damages during a recent large-scale shelling of the capital. According to the press service of McDonald’s, the company managed to swiftly conduct repairs, address the consequences of the building's destruction, and fully restore its operational processes. "For 29 years, we have been by your side. We continue on," reads the announcement. The restaurant is currently operating normally while adhering to all safety protocols during air raid alerts. The Lukianivka location holds special significance for the retail and food service market in Ukraine, as it was the first McDonald’s in the country, opening on May 24, 1997. Since 2022, the building has faced multiple rounds of destruction due to military actions, including significant damage on the night of May 24, 2026. Following an attack in July 2025, the company stated that despite ongoing shelling, it had no plans to relocate the restaurant, as "customers want to see it at Lukianivka." It is worth noting that the McDonald’s restaurant near the "Lukianivska" metro station was significantly damaged due to an attack by Russian forces on the night of May 24. The subway station itself also suffered damage; the explosion resulted in the temporary closure of the surface vestibule for passenger transport.
